Whitby is superbly-located for commuters travelling into the downtown Toronto financial core. GO Train service is excellent, from a modern station with plenty of parking including a new parking garage. Highways 401 and 407 also serve residents of Whitby, and the West Durham Link (the 4-lane highway connecting the 401 to the 407) is in Whitby.
There are many types of neighbourhoods in Whitby. Some are brand new, others are over 100 years old. There are starter homes, million-dollar homes, and everything in between. A few have unobstructed lake or conservation area views along the shoreline.
Shopping areas include the Old Downtown core, Taunton Rd., various plazas, and Brooklin. Whitby is home to an active Chamber of Commerce.

Whitby's waterfront is great for recreation and relaxation. There are beaches, parks, a pier, sports fields, conservation area and marina. If you're a cyclist the Waterfront Trail offers hours of travel either east or west.
Sports and recreation facilities in Whitby are top notch. They include ice rinks, indoor sports facilities, golf courses, boating and much more. Downhill and cross-country skiing facilities are a short drive away, approximately 30 minutes.
The arts and culture scene in Whitby is strong, from the Station Gallery to the Courthouse Theatre, to Whitby Public Library and more. Community organizations are equally strong, with the town boasting many service clubs and their associated events.
